From Awareness to Action: Does World Environment Day Drive Change?
On Wednesday this week, World Environment Day focussed on restoring degraded lands, combating desertification, and building drought resilience. This was all under the theme: ‘Our Land. Our Future. We are #GenerationRestoration.’ This year’s event, hosted by Saudi Arabia, underscores the urgent need for environmental action. But are corporates responding?
As with many things, the answer is both yes and no. It is encouraging to see how days like World Environment Day create momentum that can translate into tangible career opportunities. While some of these positions have more of a focus on compliance and reporting, rather than brave or bold action, many corporates are still striving forward. As we discussed last week in our blog - the jury is still out – are these reporting roles being created to measure and understand and drive real action? Or are they reporting for reporting’s sake?
One positive trend is the increasing demand for biodiversity and water specialists. These roles are crucial in addressing land degradation and water scarcity. As companies are forced to look at Scope 3, experts are being brought in-house to work across supply chains by theme.
